hahahs. gd qn. bt u see. i went to tis baking course once, n nt everyone looks gd with a net or tat thing which u put all ur hair in plc so the hair doesn;t drop. n yes. unfortunely, i looked horrible with it, n throughout the course, felt realli uncomfortable n conscious bout how i looked lik. soo... all hosts hav to look appealing to the audience n i think it wld look kinda wierd for them to put a net on.

It's only for looks. Most of the time no one but the cooks themselves eat the food. Would you really want someone on TV showing you a good meal that looked like you high school lunch lady? I don't think so. lol

For the same reason the women on the tv shows that involve forensics aren't dressed correctly in the lab (their hair should always be pulled back out of the way when dealing with flammable chemicals to do testing, the women don't always have the latex gloves on--they show their nice manicured hands, the list goes on...) It's TV! From most of the shows I watch, the hosts taste the food most of the time anyway and tell the audience or the tv cameras how good it is.

The reason is because although they are cooks, they are TV personalities first. Their target audience are people who cook in their homes, and they are trying to make themselves relate to their audience. In other words, they make themselves look like us. So, since we don't wear hairnets at home to cook (at least I don't), then they don't either.

Covering the hair is a legal requirement to maintain hygiene standards in food being sold. I don't suppose many wives and mums with long hair cover it before cooking in the home and mostly they will be the ones following the tv recipe.

Some Food For Thought! (excuse the pun) Well for one, there's no one to say "ew a hair!" on television, well even if someone did they would probably edit it out. On television, he host has to look just as good as the food they are preparing.

These ladies are on television showing people how to cook for themselves at home. They're not serving the food they cook to the general public, so there is no health risk.
