That's not true. There are special shampoos for dreadlocks. However, in order for a white person to achieve dreadlock status, we mustn't wash our hair.

EDIT: Well, black people in general don't have to and shouldn't wash their hair as often as whites or other races with similar hair texture. Black people tend to have drier hair and washing it strips it of its natural oils--thus leaving it brittle and dry. If I can remember correctly, my friend washed his dreads like once a month. It was part of regular maintenance routine when he would lock the new growth with the old growth as well.

u can wash ur hair, it just isn't combed....its a way to let ur hair grow undisturbed, but some ppl don't get them the natural way anymore, they go and get them specially locked and twisted and there's a lot of maintenance that goes into the style that way. so no, its not dirty and nasty- and there are black girls with very long hair-me and my friends included. when i find the pics I'll put them up 4 u.

Not all Black people crave long hair. We are comfortable enough with our identities to love our hair whether it is cut purposely short, braided in tiny braids, left in its natural kinky/curly state or straightened to perfection in a shoulder length bob. Your hair does not determine your status. If that is all you have going for you, then that is a shame.
