Can I use semi-permanent haircolor on naturally black hair?

I have naturally black hair and want to dye it a dark brown color. I was wondering if color will actually show on my hair using any semi-permanent or demi-permanent haircolor? Also, what are the differences between demi-permanent and semi-permanent haircolor? And are they damaging to hair?

Actually on the contrary of what other people are sayinbg, you can dye your hair a dark brown with semi permanent hair dye *looks at own hair*, i've done it. Before it was jet black and now it is a middle brown. So go ahead and have fun. A word of warning though, when your roots start to show it is kinda horrible so either get it retouched or redye your hair to your natural hair colour.

You'll need to lighten your hair before hand with a bleach treatment.

That's all I know, sorry.

No, semi-permanent will not color your hair. You will need to get it lightened, perhaps professionally, before you can try another color. Good luck!
